I could go and talk about why streetcars are, in many ways, superior to a damn bus. But I’m just gonna say that, unless it’s used to transport a band, taking the bus is as depressing as shopping at dollar stores.

Alissa walker is a paid transportation contrarian, thats her shtick. Just assume anytng written by her will anger you, as it was calculated to do just that.

Next week in Alissa Walker articles: Fuck Buses, after that, Ban Trains, and then the thrilling conclusion, Why Planes Are Probably The Worst.

I think they already told us how much the 6th generation fighter will suck, a few years ago.

That particular author is intentionally ignorant when it comes to powered transportation. Anger gets clicks.

More or less. Your two choices are copitulate and let the anger flow through you, or ignor and use the kinja blocker plugin (chrome) to block her and chill here on oppo

So she’s working for the dark side!
Anyways, I bet that next, she will say that having a Hyperloop through Manhattan is way better than upgrading the subway.

What’s wrong with buses? They’re pretty cool, and nifty, to boot. Plus, they’ve got bike racks on the front so you can load up your bicycle for the ride. One town nearby recently got some electric-powered buses that charge wirelessly every time they pull into a station, via power nodes installed in the ground.
As for long haul buses like Greyhound? Those are pretty awesome, too. They’re a helluva lot cheaper than a flight, they come with built-in wifi, they’re always kept ridiculously cold, and you meet the most interesting people. Plus, for whatever reason, if you need to get on or off a stop early/late, or get on an earlier or later bus, they usually let you for no extra charge. And even better? No baggage fees. And again, you meet the most interesting people.
Dollar stores are great, too. For simple things where name brands don’t matter, they’re great! Party supplies like disposable table cloths, brightly colored paper plates, streamers and cheap goodie bag fillers? They’re great! Even some small home decor items, too. I’ve gotten a few picture frames, a really nice waste basket, and a really awesome fabric shower curtain (for only $10!) at the dollar store.
I mean, I agree that Alissa Walker’s posts can generally be of the sort specifically written to incite anger, but her post on streetcars isn’t anywhere near as bad as her “ban cars” post. This one brings up some pretty valid criticisms about cost effectiveness.

Do they need one that’s official? Seems like having a posting account on a Gawker Media site requires a license obtained while being photographed with a troll under a bridge under compromising conditions.

uh.. I’m kinda siding with her on this one. Typically the highest cost per rider mile, often take up a lane of traffic, and frequently having shorter, less than useful routes. I’m sure they have their place and some communities have implemented them better than others but they really just take the place of local buses, but for a lot more money and much less flexibility.

Charter buses have like four power outlets per pair of seats to plug in phone chargers and what not. This was in 2013 on a bus that was who knows how old. I didn’t know they had wi-fi and stuff in them now; that’s pretty cool.

They’re cool, but the Atlanta Streetcar has already had a lot of issues. I can’t speak for the other ones, but there were always stories on the local news about bad things happening with the Atlanta one.
